StoryWalks 2022

A StoryWalk is a wonderful way to read a story while exploring the great outdoors. COAR's June Journeys partners select locations around Concord and Carlisle and invite families to wander through these outdoor spots while reading stories that spark conversation.

StoryWalk: Fatima's Great Outdoors by Ambreen Tariq, June 1-15
Thoreau Elementary School, 29 Prairie Street

Fatima Khazi is excited for the weekend. Her family is headed to a local state park for their first camping trip! Follow her family's adventures in this love letter to the outdoors, which highlights that public land belongs to all of us.
StoryWalk: Runaway: The Daring Escape of Ona Judge by Ray Anthony Shepard, June 1-30
The Concord Free Public Library invites everyone to visit their StoryWalk, newly installed for the season on Main Street, leading to the new Children’s Library entrance. The story is a picture book biography of Ona Judge, a young enslaved woman who escaped the family of George Washington. Kirkus Reviews says “with a distinctive, haunting voice, powerful images, and thought-provoking story structure, this unique look at a remarkable young woman’s life choices and decisions offers an utterly necessary but seldom highlighted perspective on the contradictions within our society’s foundations.”
StoryWalk: Juneteenth For Mazie by Floyd Cooper, June 17-19
Discovery Museum, 177 Main Street, Acton
Go on a StoryWalk to read Juneteenth for Mazie, a story about a young girl learning to celebrate Juneteenth. Follow the trail of pages to see how Mazie remembers the struggle and triumph of her ancestors and prepares to celebrate Juneteenth! Juneteenth is a national holiday celebrated each year on June 19th to mark the day when news of the end of slavery reached Galveston, Texas, ensuring the last enslaved people in the United States were freed – a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Free with cost of admission; this program is weather dependent
