In 2020-2021, COAR:

  • Advocated for mandatory teacher training in the Concord School District focused on anti-racist school practices

  • Advocated for the creation of a Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion position at the district level to commit the district to identifying bias, changing systemically racist policies and shifting the school climate toward further inclusion and support for all students

  • Advocated for the creation of a DEI Commission for the town of Concord

  • Connected over 20 community groups working on racial justice efforts in Concord and the surrounding area

  • Coordinated June Journeys, a month-long series of community events focused on raising awareness of racial issues and engaging community members in learning and action

  • Supported the Concord-Carlisle Human Rights Council with their MLK Jr celebration

  • Facilitated 8 Learning/Unlearning Group meetings with more than 20 attendees at each meeting

  • Facilitated 7 Parent-Teacher Group meetings at Thoreau Elementary School to engage in learning around how to talk to younger children about race and racism

  • Facilitated 5 Action Group meetings to share information among community group liaisons, identify initiatives, and move those initiatives forward

  • Maintained a community calendar with local events related to antiracism, learning and unlearning, and send 1-2 monthly emails highlighting these events

  • Grew our email list from 15 to 100 members
